Poppy Elmhirst, A.K.A Clay Elm, creates handmade, wheel-thrown, functional and decorative ceramic pieces using stoneware clay. After studying for several years in New Zealand under Frederika Ernsten, she is currently a member of Baltic Clay, working in Liverpool. Her work is centred around the importance of sustainability, plastic-free living and environmentally and ethically sound glazes and firing techniques, including smoke firing. All pieces thrown, but not sold, are recycled to avoid waste and landfill. The ceramist sells beautifully glazed mugs, bowls and plates, as well as vases and vessels decorated with smoke and plant firing. Wall hangings, jewellery and ceramic mobiles are also on offer. Her pieces are priced at £2 – £100 with the majority ranging from £5 – £30.
