Amila Ranasinghe produces functional & decorative homeware using numerous stoneware clays ranging from white through to black, also working with porcelain and air dry clay. Her creations are quirky and whilst she makes collections of similar pieces, each one is unique. Amila has undertaken various courses and workshops over several decades which have developed her skills, however, she retains a healthy disregard for the rules. For example, the artist’s range of mugs and bowls for which she uses heavily grogged sculpting clay to make an interesting external texture and a slip-lined, food-safe inner surface. She currently sells her pieces at local artisan markets and events, with prices ranging from £1.50 (for an air-dried clay gift tag) to £30 (for a twice fired hand painted and decorated piece).
